Free Comic Book Day!

Tomorrow will mark the 11th year that Free Comic Book Day has been running. People of all sorts will flock to their local comic book stores in hopes of participating in one of the best comic book related events to come year round. Unlike a comic-con, everyone can attend Free Comic Book Day. All you have to do is show up and be curious of comics or already have a love for them. The important thing to remember with FCBD, is it’s all about hooking new fans. There’s nothing I love more than seeing kids dressed up and interested in what is going on.
We also have to be mindful of the fact that every store, big or small, have there own rules when it comes to FCBD. As in how many comics you’re allowed to take home with you. Me? I’ll probably only get one or two of the titles released for the day and I’ll look to see what else is offered then I’ll most definitely buy a couple of single issues and a trade. I don’t like to load up on as much as possible because FCBD doesn’t need to hook me. I’m already a fan of comics and I’m not going anywhere. So if I leave those other 8 books on the shelf then that’s 8 more kids that might pick them up and start coming to the shop on a weekly basis.
Gail Simone wrote a post urging people to be mindful that, even though the books are free, the retailers still had to pay for them, so don’t just go for the free books, take some time to look around your shop and if anything piques your interest, give it a try, what’s the harm? I’d like to see people doing the same!
I’ll be up bright and early tomorrow morning and head out to my local shop, Strange Adventures in Fredericton, New Brunswick and I hope to see lots of people in line.
Remember folks: Support your local comic book store!
